There are so many humanitarian emergencies constantly happening all over the globe today – it can feel overwhelming to know how to help. That’s why we created our annual Emergency Response Fund*, which supports the rapidly evolving needs of communities in crisis while propelling our longer-term programs in protracted crises such as Ukraine, Haiti, and Sudan.

As the climate crisis worsens, people worldwide must prepare to face more frequent and extreme weather events, such as powerful early-season hurricanes, once-in-a-generation floods, and devastating wildfires that increasingly affect major urban centers. CORE’s climate resilience program works with vulnerable communities to implement climate action plans and build readiness to aid resiliency. As we brace for more climate catastrophes, CORE’s Emergency Response Fund will power an estimated 12 emergency responses this year.

Your gift today allows our trained emergency response team to deploy – wherever and whenever disaster-stricken families need help the most. CORE’s emergency response services include disaster case management, home repairs, mobile medical teams, relocation support, cash and voucher assistance, and so much more.

*Note: At the close of the response, contributions for the Los Angeles Fires will continue to create incredible impact and be reallocated to CORE’s Climate Resiliency Program that focuses on wildfire mitigation and preparedness. WE ARE RESPONDING

LOS ANGELES FIRES

On January 7, 2025, several major wildfires, fueled by unprecedented winds and unseasonably dry conditions, erupted across the greater Los Angeles area, destroying thousands of homes and forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate. With these fires largely uncontained, resources are stretched extremely thin.

With at least five major fires raging across Los Angeles, from the Palisades Fire along the coast to the deadly Eaton Fire in Altadena and Pasadena, tens of thousands of acres have burned – including homes, schools, and businesses, forever altering these communities and those who call them home.

As unfavorable firefighting conditions and strong winds continue, the likelihood of more fires igniting across Los Angeles remains.

CORE immediately deployed an emergency response team to support those near the fires, where air quality is a major concern. With our headquarters in Los Angeles, we actively serve residents living in many of the impacted areas through our climate resilience and public health programs.

CORE is coordinating with local partners and government agencies to provide hygiene kits with N95s to people forced to evacuate their homes, and to unhoused people. We’re also supplying shelters with WiFi sources and charging banks, so that people can charge their devices and reach loved ones. CORE will continue to help local families long after the fires are extinguished and can provide them with debris kits, case management support for those who lost their homes, and other vital resources. We will rebuild Los Angeles together.

HURRICANE HELENE

2024-25 Response: North Carolina and Georgia

Hurricane Milton hit on the heels of Hurricane Helene, which merely two weeks earlier caused a 500-mile path of destruction spanning from Florida to North Carolina and estimated damages well over $100 billion.

With a history of extensive programming and emergency responses in Georgia and North Carolina, CORE deployed teams in Lowndes County, GA and Buncombe County, NC and have reached over 60,000 people and distributed nearly 230,000 critical resources including hygiene kits, tarps, drinking water, ready to eat meal kits, and other essential relief items. We also tarped severely damaged homes and conducted medical and wellness checks to support community members, many of whom are elderly, low income and without insurance, and managing chronic illnesses.

Over the last 5 years, CORE has raised over $292 million dollars in critical funds, responded to 15 domestic and 10 international disasters, and changed the lives of over 11 million people*.

With a focus on equity, CORE continues to provide life-saving humanitarian support globally including areas of ongoing crises – like Haiti, Ukraine and Sudan – while drilling down on initiatives to support communities right here in the US, responding in Maui, Navajo Nation, & Kentucky. CORE’s domestic and international portfolio centers around Emergency Response & Preparedness; Addressing Climate Change; and Health Access.

Since March 2020, CORE has been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, administering over 7 million tests and 3 million vaccinations across the country. The organization scaled exponentially to meet the unprecedented need and to fill gaps in the healthcare system in the US and beyond, resulting in countless lives saved.
