How has COVID-19 impacted communities in North Carolina?
Like many states across the U.S., COVID-19 has devastated many low-income and marginalized communities in North Carolina, many of whom lack access to healthcare and essential resources to protect themselves from the virus.
Among other hard-hit counties, Robeson County has been devastated by COVID-19 and has held one of the lowest vaccination rates in the nation.
How has CORE provided COVID-19 relief in North Carolina?
Since 2020, CORE has been providing free COVID-19 relief in North Carolina, focusing its efforts in the hard-hit Robeson County and Lumbee Tribe. We have provided free COVID-19 tests and vaccinations to marginalized communities, including the Lumbee Tribe. Through HRSA SERVE’s COVID-19 Vaccine Outreach Project, CORE has also been providing vaccine education and awareness materials designed to address vaccine hesitancy and engage community leaders.
Through our efforts with our partners, CORE has helped increased Robeson County’s vaccination rate 63 percent (26-43 percent fully vaccinated).
