LOS ANGELES FIRES

Expanding LA’s Local Workforce: Forklift Training in Pasadena

CORE is continuously evolving our LA wildfires response to meet the needs of impacted communities – from essential resource distributions, to cash assistance, and debris clearing. True to our ethos, we’re engaging local workers and facilitating hands-on training to build their capacity and expand their skills, so they can support their community’s recovery.

CORE is partnering with the National Day Laboring Organization (NDLON), a Pasadena-based organization that supports day laborers. In addition to operating a relief hub out of their job center, NDLON has mobilized their workforce to help clear fallen trees and debris and load food, water, and other necessities to distribute to community members impacted by the Eaton Fire.

To help expand NDLON’s capacity, CORE recently hosted a Forklift Operator Certification Training at the National Day Laboring Organization (NDLON) warehouse in Pasadena. The training, delivered by J.J. Keller & Associates, Inc., was a one-day, comprehensive program that taught laborers with varying experience how to safely operate forklifts in compliance with OSHA standards.

Through classroom learning and hands-on range training, participants received in-depth instruction on forklift safety, inspection, maintenance, and operational procedures. The trainer, Tyson, commended everyone’s active engagement throughout the day, noting their leadership, quick learning, and adaptivity. We’re thrilled to support our community partner, and to give more people the opportunity to apply their skills in the field. Now, these six men and women will help NDLON meet the needs of the communities they’re serving.

CORE’s heart is with our Los Angeles community. Our local response team is working throughout the city to provide cash assistance and case management support to those who need it most, and we’re continuing to distribute essential items such as N-95 masks and hygiene kits.
