Emergency Response | 2024

Hurricane Francine

Hurricane Francine made landfall on September 11th in New Orleans as a strong Category 2 storm, slamming through Terrebonne Parish and neighboring areas with sustained wind speeds up to 100 mph. The storm has left more than 380,000 without power as severe rain and wind continue to hit the Gulf Coast. The National Hurricane Center warns of continued scattered flash flooding across major Southern cities, with 14 million people currently under flood watch.

Many of those impacted by Hurricane Francine are from marginalized groups and still recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Ida in 2021. CORE also responded following Ida with muck and gut support (cleaning out mud and damaged materials from impacted homes) along with resource coordination efforts to link residents with vital services.

Our Response

CORE is deploying a response team to the affected parishes to support community members with gutting and tarping a critical first step to help those reeling from Hurricane Francine begin to rebuild. Our team of experts, along with local staff and partners, will continue monitoring the effects of Francine and adapt our response as needs continue to evolve. Having a historical footprint responding in Louisiana, CORE is working with the state VOAD to ensure a coordinated response.
