press Release
CORE, Sae-A and SsangYong provide immediate winter relief and long-term shelter for Ukrainian refugees
December 20, 2022
Starting October 1, CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) teams in Romania, Poland and Ukraine mobilized to distribute essential winterization items donated by our steadfast supporters, Sae-A and SsangYong. Sae-A and CORE have partnered together to provide immediate humanitarian relief to the eastern frontline areas in Ukraine, including critical housing solutions as a brutal winter is expected in the region.
To help people who have suffered from the war and are still reeling from ongoing shelling in recently liberated areas, CORE has promptly distributed blankets and warm garments, including heavy sweaters and pants. These items will help individuals and their families withstand the worst of winter’s cold, worsened by continued bombings damaging critical heating infrastructure.
Almost 18,000 blankets and more than 38,000 warm garments will continue to be distributed throughout the cold winter months, prioritizing those on the frontline and hard-to-reach areas across Ukraine.
CORE, Sae-A and SsangYong are also dedicated to providing critical housing solutions to Ukrainian refugees and enhancing civil infrastructure to further support those fleeing war. This will be done through substantial renovation and improvement of collective centers and shelters to better serve refugees throughout winter and beyond. CORE, with the support and construction expertise of Sae-A and SsangYong, has focused efforts on a construction project that includes repurposing existing buildings for habitation at the border city of Przemysl, Poland. To provide Ukrainian refugees who fled the war with long-term housing support, CORE and partners are conducting rehabilitation works and weatherization of infrastructure of The Przemysl Sports Dormitories, which will successfully shelter more than 40 families upon completion.
Jerome Lebleu,
Chief Operating Officer at CORE:
“CORE and Sae-A have a longstanding history of mutual support that transcends borders. Our journey started in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and now we are working together to provide warm shelter to Ukrainians fleeing war. We know we can count on this partnership to support communities that are hurting, whether from war or natural disaster- anytime and anywhere we activate an emergency response.”
KM Kim,
CEO & President of Global Sae-A
“The Global Sae-A Group looks to open-handedly support many countries in their recovery from natural and social disasters. In order to realize the social value that the Global Sae-A Group strives for, we have decided to provide aid for children who are suffering because of the war and provide support for humanitarian reasons.” They added, “The Global Sae-A Group is not only providing clothing goods, but we are also establishing and operating a fund for the restoration efforts from Ukrainian war, and we will continue to help the recovery of Ukraine.”
