Mathew Chandy

VP, Humanitarian Response and Technical Services

Matt Chand Headshot

Mathew heads all of CORE’s domestic and global humanitarian interventions. As CORE continues to respond to humanitarian emergencies, immediate-, medium-, and long-term strategies are implemented with the oversight of Mathew’s dedicated team of experts which includes data analysts, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) specialists, a Senior Advisor Cash & Markets, and a Medical Director. His technical team works in tandem with the emergency response team to provide specialized support for CORE’s three pillars: emergency response and preparedness, addressing climate change and health access.

For Mathew, it is important for CORE and peer organizations that provide relief and recovery to help those in need in a manner that yields sustainable solutions, not dependence. Through technical experts’ support and guidance, CORE continues to improve the capacity of local actors to increasingly build their resilience to future crises.

Prior to CORE, Mathew spent 25 years working as an urban planner and architect, promoting city growth and development, supporting affordable housing and urban renewal, and responding to disasters in 26 countries. From Asia to Africa, his work has spanned from partnering with local governments on issues related to good governance to developing multisector climate change action plans for investments with the World Bank and crafting community-based waste management strategies, creating affordable shelter solutions and enabling better habitats for at-risk populations. Mathew holds a Baccalaureate Degree in Architecture and a Master’s in Community Planning from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio.

“CORE, for its size, punches above its weight, and our ability to respond to new challenges is unparalleled,” shares Mathew. I believe there are solutions for most challenges and the best responses come from within and through creating partnerships and value systems. This is our ethos.
